Filament is owned and operated by Kerry and Philippa with 25+ years of industry experience between them.
Although we definitely love the finished product – launching a new web design is awesome! – for us the journey is important too. Often we start with only the mere inkling of an idea and then go on to expand it into practical realities for our client. This process involves lots of discussion and ideation so it is essential that our environment is a fun team atmosphere. A crucial element of our working process is to include our clients like team members. And because we genuinely love what we do with a passion we believe this shows through in our results.
Our design process starts with a discussion to outline the scope of work and possibilities, then we generate a quote and upon acceptance the concept generation begins. Along the way there are chances for input and review, and then the build and test of functionality. Lastly, we like to ensure our clients are trained in how to operate their new website, and we can help to develop a social media marketing plan. To round things up we create a maintenance plan for your website or brand to ensure it keeps performing reliably.
Philippa Berry-Smith
Designer, Front-end Coder and Dean of Cats
Philippa studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in Graphic Design. She has more than 14 years industry experience as a freelance designer and working as an in-house web designer, illustrator, graphic designer and photographer. Currently graphic designer for TAFT (WOMAD NZ, Right Royal Cabaret Festival, Powerco Garden Festival etc), and previously tutor of Graphic Design, Typography and Web Design at WITT for 8 years. Philippa is an inspired designer with and amazing eye for colour, balance and detail.
Kerry Smith
Coder, Web Developer and Grounds Keeper.
Kerry’s diverse career history includes occupations like fitter welder, full time musician, sound engineer for WOMAD, video and audio producer, conference AV technician and more. Now Kerry concentrates on coding and building websites offering general web building and custom functional solutions. He is also fluent in online video content creation and management. His excellent problem solving abilities and wide technical background ensure your online presence is smooth and reliable.
Our Philosophy
At Filament we believe that personal service to our clients is essential, when you become a Filament client you deal with Philippa or Kerry directly. We don’t have account managers and we don’t out-source our work. Rest assured your project will be handled with care and skill by us.
